Work
Your product owner knows the community and makes the final call. A product lead brings those ideas to life and tests them quickly, so you know what's worth scaling for your users.
That's the job I do for you. When you want it, it's also the job I teach someone on your team, so it keeps going after I'm gone.
Both Where we start
Doing and coaching
We do the work together, and someone on your team takes it over. Someone has to keep the product going after I leave.
I do it
Fractional product lead
I run the tests and bring you a recommendation. Fits when nobody has hours for the product work yet.
I teach it
Product coaching
You do the work, and I coach you through it. Fits when someone has the instincts and needs the craft.
What the first months look like
At a minimum, one real experiment reaches your users each month. Ultimately, we move as fast as your team can. The first experiment takes the longest to gather results, and we will aim to make every subsequent experiment move faster.
Where this comes from
My school of product ownership had many teachers. A few I keep going back to:
- Shape Up, from Basecamp. Fixed time, variable scope. It’s why the budget is fixed and the scope moves.
- The Lean Startup, by Eric Ries. The experiment as the unit of work.
- Incorruptible, Eric Ries again. Build things that create more value than they take.
- Design thinking, as IDEO teaches it. Put the thing in real hands before you trust your own opinion of it.
- Pivotal Labs, where a team learns all of this by doing it next to someone for a few months.
Let's talk
If any of this resonates, I'd love to talk. Book 30 minutes and tell me what you're working on.
